Increase in Negative Balance of the SUBE Card in Buenos Aires

The negative balance of the SUBE Card has experienced a significant change at the beginning of this year, in favor of regular public transport users. Until the end of last year, this balance did not exceed $500, while at the beginning of 2025 it has increased to over $1,000. This negative balance constitutes an additional amount charged to the card and allows passengers to continue using the service when their positive balance has run out.

The activation of the negative balance is automatic, so users do not need to take any steps in this regard. The negative balance is deducted in the next recharge made by the person. For example, if a user has a negative balance of $300 and reloads $1,500, the negative balance will be deducted and the resulting positive balance will be $1,200. It is crucial to note that this balance has no expiration date and will always be available for use in future public transport trips.

The negative balance of the SUBE Card can be checked through the service's website. On this occasion, the amount of the negative balance has increased by 720 pesos. In the case of the trains of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires on the Mitre, Sarmiento, Roca, San Martín, Belgrano Norte, and Sur lines, as well as on the Neuquén valley train, the negative balance will increase to $680, although the Urquiza line will maintain a negative balance of $480 until the turnstile system is updated.

The SUBE Card not only provides convenience and security to the user by avoiding the use of cash, but also simplifies commuting by allowing travel even without a positive balance, thanks to the negative balance. With the arrival of the new year, this balance has been adjusted benefiting the millions of people who use public transport daily in the City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires.

At the end of 2024, the negative balance of the SUBE Card was $480, but in the first month of the current year, it has risen to $1,200. To enjoy this functionality, it is necessary to register the card in the user's name. Another option is to access the negative balance through the Carga SUBE application from a mobile phone. The SUBE Card has become an essential tool for public transport users in various cities across the country, especially in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.
